Trend Diamond Stone

Product Description

I encountered Trend diamond stones while on a trip to England.  I had been looking for a high quality, value priced, diamond stone for several years and Trend  seemed like a perfect product.  After testing, I now recommend and use the Trend 300 / 1000 grit double sided diamond stone as an essential part of my sharpening method.

  • Precision hand made double sided diamond bench stone 2-1/2" wide x 8' long.

  • Ideal for flattening chisel backs and sharpening plane blades and chisels.

  • Flat to within .0005 across the length and width of the stone.

  • Fine 1000 grit (15 micron) on one side and coarse 300 grit (50 micron) on the other.

  • Unique clearance channel on the coarse side produces a faster, cleaner cut.

  • Solid diamond surface on the fine side.

  • Use the coarse side for flattening your water or ceramic sharpening stones and on metal when you really need some aggressive action.

  • Use the fine side is for sharpening your secondary bevel on plane blades and chisels and other edge tools.

  • Comes complete with fabric tool holder, cleaning block and non slip mat.

This 8” x 2.5” whetstone is impregnated with industrial diamond, but what makes these stones different from the competition is how they are affixed to the stone. The typical diamond stone has the diamond chips simply scattered around and adhered to the stone. Trend has developed a unique method of attaching the diamond chips. Trend explains the process like this;

1.The base material is put into a tank which is full of nickel and the micron sized diamond particles.

2.The tank is heated to a certain temperature

3.Then an electrical current is passed into the tank

4.The nickel is then attracted (electro-plated) onto the base material

5.The diamond is dragged onto the surface in the nickel

6.The process stops when the diamond is covered two thirds by the nickel and one third exposed

The stone’s 2 sides are precisely ground to 300 grit for course work and 1000 grit for fine work. The weight of the stone keeps it steady and with the addition of a rubberized mat it is held in place without the need to clamp it to your work surface. .

"I own several DMT plates and several Atoma plates and I like them all for one task or another. I was however impressed after I had my hands on a Trend plate. I observed that Trend cuts faster than the Atoma plates and it has less fragmentation than the DMT plates. I always try to break in the plates, but I've had some really bad rouge scratches from DMT's. Because of both benefits from the Trend plate, I spend less time flattening, fixing scratches, or setting up a bevel. The experience is better; great tool! Lesson that I learned here: the Trend plate is cheaper by a long shot when you do the math. Keep mind that it's not just money, your time has value too."     - Dan H, November 2017

"Excellent product! Trend really has a winner in this double sided diamond stone. Superbly flat and it sharpens very quickly. I have used this to sharpen chisels, plane blades and some router bits. I am very happy with this double sided stone."
