Do you find that using your vintage Stanley or Record plane's adjusting knob is a bit difficult? Well we did and decided to fix that by creating our Plane AdjuSTAR adjusting knob to replace the original adjusting knob on MOST (read below) vintage Stanley and Record Planes. Our Stanley AdjuSTARS will fit most Stanley and Record planes, but we cannot guarantee that they will fit every one. For that reason, we sell them at a discounted price but do not offer returns or refunds on them. All sales are final.

Left Hand Threaded. All of our AdjuSTARS are threaded with LEFT HAND threads, which fit the vast majority of vintage planes; however, Stanley and Record did make right hand threaded planes, which our adjuSTARS WILL NOT fit on. You can tell if your vintage plane has a left hand thread if you remove your adjuster knob and then reinstall it. If it threads on when turning in a counterclockwise motion you have a left hand threaded plane.

Wont Work on Some Stanley and Record Planes. Stanley and Record made tens of thousands of planes and at numerous factories in many countries. The standards of production varies between planes depending on when and where they were manufactured. In particular, the threads on the adjusting knob rods are quite coarse and sloppy and have a lot of variability. We have tested our AdjuSTAR on hundreds of Stanley and Record planes and they fit about 95% of left hand threaded Stanley and Record vintage planes. However we do find a few left hand threaded Stanley and Record plane threaded rods that our AdjuSTARS just won't fit.

Designed to fit vintage Stanley and Record LEFT HAND threaded bench planes numbers 5, 5-1/2, 6, 7, and 8.
Does not fit any vintage Stanley or Record RIGHT HAND threaded planes, nor any Stanley or Record left hand threaded bench planes numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 4-1/2 or 5-1/4.
Does not fit the new Stanley Sweetheart line of planes.
Diameter: 1-7/8 inch outside diameter.

Saving my sanity (and thumb)

I’ve loved getting into hand tool woodworking, but my no. 7 was the one plane I struggled with, namely the difficulty adjusting the blade depth. After watching some highlights of this accessory from Rob and a review from Wood By Wright, I decided to give this a shot. To say it has improved my overall enjoyment is an understatement. Replacing the old adjustment knob revealed other issues (broken yolk), but after getting the yolk replaced and putting on the AdjuSTAR I am getting shavings that are wildly thin, and I’m not destroying my fingers trying to make small adjustments. Highly recommend!!

Side note: getting a call from Rob after I ordered this was such a pleasant surprise. Wish I lived closer to the shop!!

Easy to install, so easy to adjust afterwards

Perfect fit, goes in easy and makes spinning the wheel so much easier and more precise.

Impressive Upgrade

Approximately 4 months ago and without any prior hand tool experience I bought my first handplane. After days of setup, watching RC YouTube, adjusting the plane and more practice I was finally learning how to use the tool. I gradually got better but the one thing that didn't improve was advancing the blade. The adjustment wheel was not smooth, had lots of lag and would bind up when approaching full forward. It was just too hard to adjust and impossible to micro adjust. I ordered and installed an Adjustar...OMG what a difference. Within a couple of hours, I was cranking out consistent thin shaving ribbons leaving behind that wonderfully smooth finish ready surface. Blade adjustments are now as smooth as silk with very little lag and can be made with 1 finger. Thank you, Rob, for helping make my hobby so much more enjoyable. I love this accessory.

The only upgrade my old planes need!

It’s not hype! I found the adjustar to be a great upgrade. It feels like they should have been on the planes right from the start!
