Rob Cosman's Plane AdjuSTAR - Vintage Stanley & Record Version
Do you find that using your vintage Stanley or Record plane's adjusting knob is a bit difficult? Well we did and decided to fix that by creating our Plane AdjuSTAR adjusting knob to replace the original adjusting knob on most vintage Stanley and Record Planes (and most vintage copy cat planes).
Stanley and Record made tens of thousands of planes and the standards of production varies between planes depending on when and where they were manufactured. In particular, the threads on the adjusting knob rods are quite coarse and sloppy have a lot of variability. With the help of our customers we have tested our AdjuSTAR on hundreds of Stanley and Record they fit about 98% of the time.
Our Plane AdjuSTAR is larger and much easier to use than the original adjusting knob allowing you to make adjustments to your blade depth setting easily. Our design makes it easier for you to reach and turn the adjuster with your fingers and easier for you to reach the frog adjustment screw with a screwdriver. We know you will love our Plane AdjuSTAR.
- Designed to fit most vintage Stanley and Record bench planes numbers 3 through 8. Note: You may have to remove the handle to thread on the AdjuSTAR on bench planes #3, #4, and #5. After installing the AdjuSTAR on the #3 there is not much room for your grip on the handle.
WILL NOT FIT the Stanley or Record bench planes numbers 1 or 5-1/4.
- DOES NOT FIT the new Stanley Sweetheart line of planes.
- 1-7/8 inch outside diameter.
Easy to install and use. Nice improvement. Makes it easier for my old fingers to make minor adjustments. I used the little shipping tube to store the old original adjuster knobs.
Great upgrade to an old #5 1/2
I'm restoring an old Stanley 5 1/2 to use as a shooting plane. The AdjuStar makes fine adjustments easy even with 64 year old fingers. Great idea! Steve
It’s like getting to know an old friend again. It’s great to be able to use that old plane like I did 30 years ago. No trouble with that adjustment knob now.
Game changer !
This is such a simple idea that has totally changed how the plane is used, no more fighting to adjust the depth. Great upgrade.
Not AdjuSTAR problem . . .
. . . but unable to screw entirely to the base of the threaded shaft. Original adjustment knob on Stanley works OK, so I suspect the problem is in the threads of the shaft. The threads of the original brass adjustment knob probably was worn to fit. AdjuSTAR works well for fine adjustments. Thanks.
