Rob Cosman's Plane AdjuSTAR - Vintage Stanley & Record Version
Do you find that using your vintage Stanley or Record plane's adjusting knob is a bit difficult? Well we did and decided to fix that by creating our Plane AdjuSTAR adjusting knob to replace the original adjusting knob on most vintage Stanley and Record Planes (and most vintage copy cat planes).
Stanley and Record made tens of thousands of planes and the standards of production varies between planes depending on when and where they were manufactured. In particular, the threads on the adjusting knob rods are quite coarse and sloppy have a lot of variability. With the help of our customers we have tested our AdjuSTAR on hundreds of Stanley and Record they fit about 98% of the time.
Our Plane AdjuSTAR is larger and much easier to use than the original adjusting knob allowing you to make adjustments to your blade depth setting easily. Our design makes it easier for you to reach and turn the adjuster with your fingers and easier for you to reach the frog adjustment screw with a screwdriver. We know you will love our Plane AdjuSTAR.
- Designed to fit most vintage Stanley and Record bench planes numbers 3 through 8. Note: You may have to remove the handle to thread on the AdjuSTAR on bench planes #3, #4, and #5. After installing the AdjuSTAR on the #3 there is not much room for your grip on the handle.
WILL NOT FIT the Stanley or Record bench planes numbers 1 or 5-1/4.
- DOES NOT FIT the new Stanley Sweetheart line of planes.
- 1-7/8 inch outside diameter.
These fit most of my Stanley planes. Was to tight on my no3 it fit but not much room to use. Even fit my Union (post stanley purchasing them) There is a little backlash but that maybe the fact that the planes are over 100 years old. I eventually fitted them to the two I have with small adjusters as they where fiddly for me to use. Now its easy.
The star fits my Stanley number four which was my fathers old plane it was a bit tight on the first threads what goes up and down no problem now it’s a lot easier than the old brass screw to adjust
Works perfectly on my Tay Tools #7 jointer. Makes the plane so much easier for my old hands to use, especially on a shooting board. I will buy another one for my #4 smoother when they are available again.
Installed on my daughter Bedrock 605 and it works well
sorry do not work on my Record#4 Plane, did not engage fingers of adjustment. Thhreaded OK!
