Do you find that using your vintage Stanley or Record plane's adjusting knob is a bit difficult? Well we did and decided to fix that by creating our Plane AdjuSTAR adjusting knob to replace the original adjusting knob on most vintage Stanley and Record Planes (and most vintage copy cat planes).

Stanley and Record made tens of thousands of planes and the standards of production varies between planes depending on when and where they were manufactured.  In particular, the threads on the adjusting knob rods are quite coarse and sloppy have a lot of variability.  With the help of our customers we have tested our AdjuSTAR on hundreds of Stanley and Record they fit about 98% of the time.

Our Plane AdjuSTAR is larger and much easier to use than the original adjusting knob allowing you to make adjustments to your blade depth setting easily.  Our design makes it easier for you to reach and turn the adjuster with your fingers and easier for you to reach the frog adjustment screw with a screwdriver. We know you will love our Plane AdjuSTAR.

  • Designed to fit most vintage Stanley and Record bench planes numbers 3 through 8.  Note: You may have to remove the handle to thread on the AdjuSTAR on bench planes #3, #4, and #5.  After installing the AdjuSTAR on the #3 there is not much room for your grip on the handle.
  • WILL NOT FIT the Stanley or Record bench planes numbers 1 or 5-1/4.
  • DOES NOT FIT the new Stanley Sweetheart line of planes.
  • 1-7/8 inch outside diameter.

Excellent overall on my Stanley #6, but had difficulty installing it on the Stanley #4. Finally got it right. Works like a charm. Thanks

Tastes great, last a long time!

The adjuster is the best addition/modification I have made to my planes. I’ve added modern third party blades, which are great, and some other pieces intended to reduce backlash, which were not so great. The size of the Adjustar makes for quick adjustments (especially when taking up backlash, when there is no pressure on the mechanism and it operates smoothly. Adjusting the blade while playing is easy, with no stopping to adjust due to a small wheel or sticky mechanism. I name them on all of my planes except my scrub, which is rarely adjusted.

Works perfectly.

Fits perfect. Highlights the slop in the yoke. Really helps with fine adjustments of my Bailey 4.5 and 5.5.

Purchased 2 for a Stanley#4 and #7

Installed on the#4 perfectly and works well. The#7 threads are a bit tight, but after some lubricant and working on and off it seems to be working okay.
