In my shop the shooting board is standard equipment. Once you learn to sharpen and use a hand plane, a good shooting board will do more to increase the accuracy of your work than any other tool or shop implement. Here is why mine works so well:

Made with an MDF base and a Baltic Birch plywood top for stability and long wearing properties.
Formed over a curved mold, the board has a subtle cup on the underside, this keeps the plane standing plumb.
Fence and cleat made from abuse-resistant and tough tropical hardwood.
Fence glued and screwed to stay secure and square.
Rabbet cut in Baltic birch to prevent plane from cutting shooting board.
Fence positioned several inches from the rear to keep plane running straight.
Available in left and right hand models.
Available in two sizes, 24" x 12" and 18" by 12".

I am thrilled that Rob Cosman offers a professionally made shooting board which is going to be essential in my practice of violin making. Now I don't have to spend vast amounts of time to make my own unit, only to find out in the end that it is inaccurate. A shooting board is critical to make perfectly square end to the maple ribs of a violin or viola, where they meet together at the end button of the instrument; This must be a perfect joint. Customer service was great, with Rob leaving a message on my phone to thank me for my order! If I hadn't been driving a commercial vehicle at the time, I certainly would have answered, and had the chance to talk woodworking and violin making.

Top quality shooting board

I had a shooting board I’d cobbled together and it was OK. But this RC one is top quality. Used it to prep some boards for a shaker style candle box I’m making (using other RC items: dovetail marker, Shawn shim, marking knife).
It was an early Christmas gift. Really pleased with it.
