My mortise gauge attachment easily fits into the body of my Rob Cosman Marking Gauge, my "Cosmanized" Woodriver Marking Gauge, and most other marking gauges that use a 5/16 inch diameter rod.

Designed for marking out a mortise & tenon joint in furniture making.

Width range between the two cutters: 3/16 inch to 11/16 inch wide.

Works best for marking out cuts between 1/4 inch to 5/8 inch wide.

Designed primarily for marking out the tenons but works for the mortises as well.

Place your mortise chisel between the cutters, snug up the cutters to the chisel sides, using the knurled handle lock the cutters in place, remove the chisel. Now your gauge perfectly matches the width of your chisel.

When laying out tenons, the bevel / waste side of the gauge is perfectly located on the "waste" side of the line.

When laying out mortises, the bevel / waste side of the cutter is located on the "keep" side of the line.

Rob recommends laying out the mortise using just one line with a standard marking gauge, instead of this gauge. The reason for this is it is much easier to register your mortise chisel to one line verses two lines when chopping.

Hello, I got this as an add-on to an existing order. I didn't need it but I wanted it - I'm sure we've all been there... I have not used it, but I have played with it. It does what it should, and it does it well. Easy setup with chisels or I used set up blocks. It cuts nice deep guidelines for the saw or chisel to register in. And it fits into my Vertias marking base nice and snug for easy setup and the locking nut holds it in place without wandering or slipping. If you want it get it, I don't think you will be disappointed. Thanks, Bill

Nice addition to my Marking Guages

I have 2 WoodRiver Marking Gauges that I "Cosmanized". I have a 380 sq ft shop so storage space is limited and I only have 2 marking gauges. It is nice to be able to take one rod out and replace it with the mortice gauge and still have one set up for the tenon. It's easy to set the mortice width and takes up little room in the drawer when I'm not using it. Thankyou Rob for offering this option.

The best tenon gauge there is

Very pleased with this gauge. So simple and accurate, nice sharp cutters that give you clear lines to follow.

A bit disappointed.

The cutters seem to be out of alignment. I can't get them both to cut at the same time. The cutting closest to the base doesn't cut unless I tilt the gauge, but then the outer cutter misses. Maybe its user error but I don't know. I don't have that problem with my antique 1840's gauge. Usually Rob's stuff is the best. Maybe its the base I am using.
