Camellia oil is a favorite traditional tool treatment among woodworkers preventing corrosion A special blend oil, made with natural camellia and liquid paraffin, it is non-toxic and non-allergenic. Light and odorless, the oil is non-staining and doesn't affect glue-up. Use a light wipe of Camellia oil on all your steel tools to keep them clean & shiny.
I use this oil exclusively to maintain my metal planes and for all metal components (irons and soles) of wooden or transition planes. It works wonderfully. I’ve had zero rust or patina develop on any of my planes since using this product, even when I accidentally leave shavings in the mouth of a plane.
A word of caution, though: make sure to wipe off any excess oil before storing your plane in a plane till, as the oil can and will seep into unfinished wood and potentially darken it. I apply a combination of walnut oil and beeswax in a 3:1 ratio to my plane till to ensure that this isn’t an issue.
I've only had this "earl" for two weeks, but it was immediately applied to the blade of my new Rob Cosman dovetail saw. Time will tell how well it ultimately works but that may be shorter than normal as my shop is located in a very aggressive environment just 50 feet off the Bay of Fundy beach.
It works so good on protecting my tools I figured "it's gotta be good for my organs" So i started drinking it! What do you know?! It is good for organs! I drink a bottle a week and feel better than I have in 20 years! Thanks Col! I'm proud to call you a red leg!
So far so good. I have just begun using this oil on my planes and chisels, and am building the muscle memory to apply it regularly when I use the tools.
It’s impossible to watch that product video and not buy this “ oirl” !
