Cosmanized Half-Blind Chisels: IBC 3/8 inch
If you have ever cut a half-blind dovetail then you know how challenging cleaning out the pin socket is, especially in the corners. Not happy with the skew and fishtail chisels available, I designed and made my own half-blind chisel and they work great!
These chisels are "Cosmanized" from an IBC 3/8 inch bevel edge chisel and are available in either a Maple or Walnut handle.
- Has a 7/16 inch cutting depth.
Fishtail-shape makes accessing the back corners of the half-blind socket easy.
Sides of the chisel tip are sharp to sever fibers on the pin side wall and makes it easier to get into the corner.
One chisel does both corners verses a left and right set of skew chisels.
Pushing through endgrain is tough; unlike skew chisels, my chisel keeps your line of force straight.
My students love them! Try it once and you will never want to cut half-blind dovetails without it.
Nice sharp edge but I’m disappointed in the quality of the walnut and finish. I was expecting nice dark heartwood but see mostly light sapwood. Appears to be very little finish on it as well. I’ll probably end up replacing it with much better walnut.
Works great and I’m far from being experienced. Amazed at your shops tool ideas
I got a 3/8” and it sure makes cleaning out a dovetail easier than a standard whistle. I will probably get a 5/8” later on.
Outstanding, they work great on the half blind dovetails!! The user just needs to get better at the joinery!!
Powerfull good quality good grind nice and sharp i changed the handles on all my IBC chisels to cocobola
