Rob Cosman's Professional Tenon Saws

Product Description

Every handtool woodworker needs a minimum of three backsaws: Dovetail, Tenon, and Crosscut Saws. I design and manufacture two Professional Tenon Saws to meet this requirement: my Large and Medium Tenon.

I specifically designed my Tenon Saws to cut precise, ready-to-fit, tenons.   My tenon saws are heavier than most providing you with better saw balance and reduced vibration. The weight, combined with the pistol grip style handle, trains you to make straight, perpendicular cuts. The relaxed cutting angle of the small front teeth starts the cut with ease and the diamond-saw formed teeth slice straight through the wood giving you a ready-to-joint surface. I personally test each saw before packing in a handsome pine presentation / storage box.

Both saws come standard with a composite resin-impregnated handle. For those woodworkers who prefer wooden handles we offer limited edition wooden handles in many different species.  To see the currently available wood species and how to order, click HERE

Professional Large Tenon Saw.  This saw is targeted towards the professional or advanced hobbyist woodworker.  Its size and weight provides you the capability to cut even the largest tenons, however; it requires that you have already mastered the skills to control the saw.

  • 20 TPI teeth with a relaxed cutting angle on the first two inches of the blade makes for easy saw starts.

  • 12 TPI quickly and efficiently makes precise, smooth walled, tenon cheek even in the densest hardwoods.

  • 2-3/4" Depth of blade allows you to handle very large tenon cuts.

  • .025" thick blade; provides the stiffness needed in a large saw.

Professional Medium Tenon Saw.  After watching thousands of my students struggle to learn how to use large tenon saws, I decided to design a tenon saw for the beginner and weekend woodworker.  My Medium Tenon Saw is the result.  It's slightly smaller than my Large Tenon Saw making its easier to control and use, but it's still big enough to meet 90% of all your tenon cutting requirements.

  • 22 TPI teeth with a relaxed cutting angle on the first two inches of the blade makes for super easy saw starts.

  • 2" depth of blade makes balancing and controlling the saw easier than my Large Tenon Saw.

  • .025" thick blade; 12 TPI.

  • Size. Overall length (Toe to handle tip): 15-7/8 inches. Blade length (Toe to heal): 11 inches.  Depth of blade under the back: 1-5/8 inches.
  • Weight: 20-22 ounces.
  • Blade. Made from .025" thick, spring steel.
  • Tooth Geometry. First 2" are filed rip at 22 TPI with a negative 30 degree rake. The remaining teeth are filed rip at 12 teeth per inch (TPI) and a 0 degree rake.
  • Set. Unlike most saw manufacturers who stamp out their saw teeth, leaving "dimples" in the blade, we individually cut out each of our saw teeth with diamond impregnated saws.  This allows us to maintain a very slight set of only .002 inch (per side), since we don't introduce that "dimple" onto the blade.  This slight set produces a narrow .029 inch kerf that eliminates slop allowing the saw blade to accurately track in the saw kerf resulting in dead straight saw cuts with smooth ready to glue surfaces.
  • Brass Back: 1/4″ thick x 15/16″ wide brass back is secured to the blade with peened and flushed copper pins.  Not only does the brass look wonderful but it imparts extra weight to the saw, as compared to our competitors saws, that provides you a better balanced saw, allows the saw to do the cutting work, and helps you "feel" perpendicular.
  • Handle. Each of our "pistol grip" handles have memory enhancing carved finger recesses for a perfect and comfortable fit. A pair of brass split nuts secures the handle to the blade and the brass back.  Our tenon saws come standard with handles made from Swanstone, a composite material reinforced with glass for durability.  We also offer limited edition run handles crafted out of unique species of select woods - watch the website HERE for availability.  For an additional charge, large handles are available on request.
  • Size. Overall length (Toe to handle tip): 17 inches.  Blade length (Toe to heal): 12 inches.  Depth of blade under the back: 2-3/4 inches.
  • Weight: 22-24 ounces.
  • Blade. Made from .025 thick, spring steel.
  • Tooth Geometry. First 2" are filed rip at 20 TPI with a negative 30 degree rake. The remaining teeth are filed rip at 12 teeth per inch (TPI) and a negative 10 degree rake.

    3. How much is shipping?  All shipping charges are calculated at check-out. These charges are calculated by Canada Post's system, so you're paying what we pay (We do not add any up-charges).

    4. How do I track my order?  When your order ships, you will receive a tracking code at the email address you provided. If you don’t see it, check your junk mail folder as it often gets routed there. Or, if you created an account with us, you can log in to check the status of your order and track it's progress.

    5. When will I receive my package?   We are lightening fast when it comes to shipping! (Yes, we wear super hero shipping capes). Typically we'll have your order on the truck within 24 hours after purchasing. We are located in New Brunswick, Canada, so how long it takes to actually reach you will depend upon where you are in the world. Allow 2-5 business days in Canada, 4-7 business days in the US, 10-20 business days for most other countries (expedited shipping options are available).

    6. Attention International Customers: Your order may be subject to import duties, custom tariffs or VAT charges. These vary from country to country. Please check your country's customs policy prior to placing your order with us. You are responsible for these charges if assessed by your country. If your package is refused or undeliverable, the original shipping cost is non-refundable. A phone number is required for all orders.

    7. How do I change or cancel my order?  If you wish to change or cancel your order please call us at (877) 967-5966 or email us at Support@Robcosman.com.  Please provide us your order number and the date of purchase. If your order has not been shipped, we’ll gladly give you a refund. If your order has already been shipped, you will need to return it to us for a refund or exchange.

    8. What is your return policy?  We stand behind each and every one of our products, and therefore guarantee satisfaction.  If there is a defect in one of the products you received, just contact us to explain the problem, we will then pay for the return shipping and ship you out a replacement immediately.

This is our owner and founder - Rob.  He is the shop master, our woodworking guru, the source of all woodworking knowledge, without him we are nothing! (He also signs our paychecks so we have to say that!).

This is Jake, son of Rob.  He is the CEO of the Rob Cosman Global Logistics Center and he also shoots all the videos. If your package did not arrive on time its Jake's fault, not ours!  If the Rob Cosman video you are watching shakes too much its Jake's fault, not ours!  Basically if its bad its Jake's fault, not ours!

This is Dave, friend of Rob.  Dave is head of shop production, the shop DJ, and the shop's union steward. He keeps production on union schedule, maintains the shop equipment, and always has tunes on his phone.  Just don't park your car behind his truck!

This is Frick, son-in-law of Rob. He is our techie.  He edits all the videos and pictures and is the administrator of the online workshop website.  We have to tolerate him because he makes the grandkids.

This is COL Luther - affectionately know as Luthie, friend of Rob.  He helps run Rob's Purple Heart Project and helps with the website.  He will do just about anything we ask as long as we feed him boiled peanuts and grits.
