The Workbench is the most important tool for the hand tool woodworker, but until now a quality workbench was either too expensive to buy or too complicated to build.  Rob solved both of these problems with The Cosman Workbench.  While creating a quality workbench for professionals and beginners alike, he minimized the cost and skill to build his workbench.  Made out of readily available materials,  Rob's workbench has no difficult joinery and can be built in a weekend.  Watch alongside Rob and Luther as they show you, step by step, in real time, mistakes and all, how to build The Cosman Workbench.

    A Great Workbench!!!

The video was extremely helpful to watch. By providing alternate ways to complete a task, I was able to gain the confidence to complete it. The work bench turned out great and I expect I will have it for a long time to come. Thank you!

    Great Guide

I'm a novice woodworker with an engineering background and am quite comfortable with technical drawings. Was initially on the fence about whether to buy the video or just the plans (I bought the video). Now that I have completed the base and top, I can say the video is well worth the extra money. The detailed instructions and tips really helped and I'm quite happy with the results. I'm sure I would have made costly mistakes without it. While Rob works with an assistant Luther in the video, I built mine on my own when my wife and kids were out of town. An assistant would definitely have helped! I have very basic power tools including an old, cheap Ryobi table saw (when Ryobi was 'blue'), router, hand drill and brad nailer (Rob used staples, but the nails seem to work fine). I did buy a dowel jig and drill bits for the dog holes (still to be completed). I also splurged for the Sjoberg vise (still to be installed). My biggest challenge being on my own was breaking down the large plywood and MDF sheets and wrestling with the full thickness top (it is VERY heavy!). As my table saw is small, I also had to improvise by making a straight edge jig to ensure the top and bottom of the legs were parallel using a portable circular saw. Bottom line, this video is well worth it if you want to built the Cosman workbench! As others have noted, I also received a personal call from Rob. That's a very nice touch and much appreciated. Attached is my bench (in progress). The top is not yet attached as i need to install the vise first. This is in the build sequence, and a tip reiterated by Rob in his call to me. I did manage to get the recommended 5/8 inch baltic birch for the base (not very cheap in today's market), and I had to use 4 layers of 3/4 in MDF as 1 inch is not readily available in my area. Unfortunately, the material is no longer in the neighborhood of $100, but still well worth the extra for the solid bench it forms. If you want to build this bench, strongly recommend you buy the video.

    Work Bench

Very Good. The directions were easy to understand and well presented - I do recommend the PDFs - I referred to them regularly as well as the video. I did build this by myself which is manageable if a little difficult at times. I think to build in a weekend for a beginner is not realistic, but probably 2-3 doable. It was a great project and now I have legit work bench.

    Very helpful

I decided to build the Cosman bench but wasn’t sure about buying the video and cut list. I was very pleased I did. Very happy with the bench and really enjoyed the process of making it.
