Rob Cosman's Plane AdjuSTAR - WoodRiver & Luban Version
Do you find that using your plane's adjusting knob is a bit difficult? Well we did and decided to fix that by creating our Plane AdjuSTAR adjusting knob to replace the original adjusting knob on most WoodRiver bench planes.
Our Plane AdjuSTAR is larger and much easier to use than the original adjusting knob allowing you to make adjustments to your blade depth setting easily. Our design makes it easier for you to reach and turn the adjuster with your fingers and easier for you to reach the frog adjustment screw with a screwdriver. We know you will love our Plane AdjuSTAR.
- Fits WoodRiver & Luban bench planes numbers 4-1/2, 5, 5-1/2, 6, and 7. (WILL NOT fit number 1, 3,or 4).
- The Lie-Nielsen version fits Lie-Nielsen bench planes numbers 4-1/2, 5, 5-1/2, 6, 7, and 8. (WILL NOT fit number 1, 3, or 4, or 5-1/4).
- Requires removal of handle to install (see installation video).
- 1-7/8 inch outside diameter.
It is a slight improvement not worth the effort.
I’m not that old, yet arthritis is already beginning to take its toll on my thumbs and index fingers on both hands. I really like how I can easily spin the knob with just one straight index finger. Installation of the part was a breeze. Fit and finish quality is high. Only thing I have an issue with is when I go to use my 5 1/2 on my Cosman shooting board, the star digs into my fingers a little bit, which then throws off my adjustment a little. Probably just me though with technique. Overall, I rate this a 5/5, would recommend!
Just put it on my Ln 5 1/2. Took all of one minute. Super pleased. Need one for my Stanley Bailey 4s
Works better than I ever expected! It makes plane adjustment so much easier, ends the struggling with hard to grip round knob. The product itself is first rate fit and finish, like all of RC products I have purchased. It's such a joy to use first rate, high quality, smooth as silk! Recommended!
Who would have thought that this simple design change would make such a difference! I seriously can't believe that Wood Craft or Lie Nielson have not adopted it. Well done sir!!!
